T-minus 15 days until the Club House makes its maiden voyage.
I am constantly amazed at the community the Club House creates as we work on it here in Home Park. People come from all over, from all different social circles and times in my life and tons of new friends just to check out the bus and what the heck is going on at the corner of Lynch and Center Street.
Tonight started as any other night, get home from work, grab a quick bite and head out to the bus to get it started. I was joined by two lovely ladies, an old resident and adventure friend Audrey and a rugby buddy who turned out to be quite handy- Chelsea. Sean and Andrew arrived and with the sun starting to head down we climbed on top of the Club House with a freshly arrived 12 pack of Yingling (a Club House favorite) and a box of cheese-its provided by none other than Alyssa.
I havn’t seen Alyssa since Mexico over a year ago, she road triped through mexico with a crew of us but had us drop her off at a random bus stop so she could hitch hike her way through central America. Apparently she made it back alright.
As we sat on top of the bus roof planning and watching the sun set Moose and Mercedes showed up just to say hello for a bit. Moose is a rugby friend and was showing off her battle scars from this past weekend's adventure out to Capers Island. Mercedes is a freshmen who I met through Audrey and we quickly decided we should be best friends. She has decided to join us for some of this crazy adventure out west. Then who should come walking up the road, fresh from Rocky Mountian Pizza but 3 good ol’ ME buddys I graduated with last year. It was Zach’s bday and they were well in to celebrating already. They grabbed a beer and joined us on the roof.
We started working at some point, everybody helping out in what ways they could.
The ME boys were given the battery holder job under the bus, and they defiantly were 100% creative and 0% safe in their workings on the far side of the bus.
Music was blaring Hush sound as Sean and Alyssa put up walls, Chelsea and Andrew put up framing and Chris and I worked on designing the kitchen area. Davin showed up again. Davin is Sean’s good friend and he always seems to show up with a whole lot of opinions about everything – but he usually brings beer too, so we keep him around. Davin brought his gf this time and she got her first tour of the bus. A few others came to hang out, not too sure who they were, or what relation to those of us working, but its always fun having new people around. Trever came too. I met Trever through my roommate Sarah on a climbing/caving adventure last year and he is always good for a laugh. He dose a good job of proving some gingers can have souls. Alex came later, this is the 2nd time I’ve met him, I’m not sure how he got involved on this project, but I think he is coming with us too. And through out all of this neighbors are stopping by, commenting on the progress, laughing with us, sharing a beer with us. I have defiantly gotten to know so many more of my neighbors and even house mates thanks to big old yeller out back. Why didn’t we think of this before?
And tonight a very special guest surprised us…
Yup, the ice cream man!
All in all a very successful night of bus work. Plans are made to really get going on the Club House the next couple days. We expect tons of progress and lots of change to the bus.
